A Surprise Garden Transformation with Raised Brick Walling, New Lawn and Dragonfly Patio Design
This garden landscaping project in Yarm, Stockton-on-Tees involved the construction of a Raj Green sandstone patio, raised brick walling, retaining walls, garden steps and a newly turfed lawn. The project demonstrates how a professionally designed sandstone patio can transform an ordinary garden into an attractive and practical outdoor space. It was commissioned by Chris as a surprise birthday present for his wife, Jane, while she was away on business.
The brief was to create a more attractive and usable garden space with a patio area, raised beds, steps and a lawn, all completed within a very tight timescale. Chris explained that Jane had always wanted her garden landscaped and especially liked butterflies and dragonflies, so the design needed to feel personal as well as practical.
Green Onion Landscaping suggested using Raj Green sandstone paving for the main patio area. This natural sandstone has soft green, grey and taupe brown tones, making it a good choice for a traditional garden patio with a warm, natural appearance.
To make the patio feel even more special, we included a circular dragonfly patio centrepiece as the main feature within the paving. The dragonfly design created a personal focal point in the garden and helped turn the patio into something much more individual than a standard paved area.
Raised Brick Walling and Garden Landscaping in Yarm
As part of the wider garden landscaping work, Green Onion Landscaping constructed two sweeping raised brick flower beds on either side of the patio. These brick-built beds also acted as retaining walls, helping to shape the garden and manage the change in level between the patio and the lawn area.
The raised beds gave the garden more structure and created space for planting, while the brick walling helped frame the sandstone patio and soften the transition between the different levels of the garden.
Between the raised beds, we built a set of garden steps to provide access from the patio to the newly turfed lawn. The steps were finished with Raj Green sandstone paving to match the main patio and keep the design consistent.
Completing the Garden Transformation Before Jane Returned Home
Green Onion Landscaping completed the Yarm garden landscaping project before Jane returned from her business trip. The finished garden included the Raj Green sandstone patio, dragonfly centrepiece, raised brick walling, raised flower beds, garden steps and a fresh new lawn.
Jane was delighted with her surprise garden makeover. The completed project created a more attractive and practical outdoor space for the family to enjoy.
