Softwood Timber Decking Project in Acklam, Middlesbrough
This garden project in Acklam, Middlesbrough involved the construction of a softwood timber decking area designed specifically for a young family.
Andrew and Karen Carter wanted a safe outdoor space where their children could play while also creating a practical area for outdoor dining, relaxing and entertaining friends. The completed decking now provides a dedicated family seating area that can be enjoyed throughout the warmer months.
Designed for a Family with Young Children
The main aim of this project was to create a secure and practical outdoor space for family life.
Although the decking sits only slightly above the surrounding lawn, timber balustrades with turned spindles were installed around the perimeter to help create an enclosed environment for the children. The railings also provide an attractive traditional appearance that complements the softwood timber decking.
A wide central step was incorporated into the design to provide easy access between the lawn and decking area. This simple layout created a comfortable outdoor space where the family could relax while the children played safely nearby.
Traditional Softwood Timber Decking
Pressure treated softwood timber was selected for this project because of its natural appearance and practicality within a family garden.
Softwood decking remains a popular choice for domestic gardens and can be stained or treated in the future should homeowners wish to alter its appearance. The lighter colour of the timber worked well within the garden and complemented the surrounding lawn and planting.
